About Me
My name is Emerson McAfee, and I'm a nerd. I grew up in Austin, Texas, the youngest of three children. From a young age I exhibited techie tendencies. I practically grew up with a mouse in my hand. My sisters, however, did not. Nor did my parents. They all are quite clueless when it comes to computers. I became the resident computer expert, and it seemed I couldn't go an hour without hearing a family member yell "Eeeeeemmmmooo!" with that 'something's wrong with the computer' tone in their voice. So I grew up not only enjoying computers, but constantly fixing them.
I feel that I should devote a special paragraph to my mother, who I love dearly. She's a wonderful lady - perfectly intelligent, patient, and motivated, but when it comes to computers, directions go in one ear and right out the other. She just doesn't have the capacity to learn or do anything on computers. Unfortunately for me, she's pretty dependant on them in her personal and professional life. That means she's constantly calling on me to fix her computer problems. I got in the habit of writing things down with her, since explaining what I was doing or verbally giving her instructions never got me anywhere. That's why I now give all clients a small binder of information pertaining to their computer troubles. Even if you don't remember what I did, you can do it yourself with step-by-step instructions.
Continuing on with my life - during high school I got interested in web design. I started programming for the first time, as well. I fancy myself as being somewhat creatively inclined, and I had known for almost a decade that I was technically inclined, so web design was a natural direction for me to take.
I enjoyed web design so much that I decided to go to college to study it at Parsons School of Design here in the city. I left after a single semester. I loved Parsons, and I think it's an excellent school, but I felt that I had mostly taught myself what they were teaching me in my computer classes. I decided that I already knew enough about computers, and that a more practical major for me would be business, so I transferred to Pace University's business program, also in the city.
Some things never change - my family still calls me with that 'my computer's broken' tone in their voice, I still have a mouse in my hand all-too-often, and I'm still a nerd.

soaking wet. It rained when a buddy and I were halfway accross. =)
